The Role of Suffering in Perfecting Our Purpose

Loss, regret, shame, despair, and disappointments are all part of the flow of life. Coping with broken-heartededness can be one of the greatest challenges of our lives, but God has a plan and purpose to transform “the broken” into the made whole; the downtrodden to the uplifted. Ultimately, we suffer through the storms of life so that we can help rescue others in the eye of the storm who feel that all hope is lost. In the end, walking through the fires of suffering results in connecting us with our purpose and empowers us to strengthen and help others.

Key Areas of Suffering and Resources

Grief, Loss, and Bereavement

Grief is a spiritual discipline that is difficult and takes time to deal with.  If we grieve properly, it can provide healing and a closer walk with God.

The Pain of Betrayal

Nothing is more painful in the church and pastorate as betrayal.  Yet, the subject is hardly ever talked about or preached about in the church.  Betrayal causes a person to suffer deeply.  Our ability to navigate the dark waters of betrayal will work a deep forgiveness in our hearts.

Suffering and Family "Mess"

We often suffer as a result of the sin and consequences down through the generations. Let’s take a realistic look at co-dependency and dysfunction from a biblical perspective. God works beyond our difficulties and dysfunctionality to bring us into a powerful destiny.

Healing, Social Justice, and Radical Love

Jesus Christ's life and sacrifice was an example of demonstrating love to all people regardless of their race, ethnicity, religion, education, or social class; particularly, the marginalized, vulnerable, and outcast. Real social justice begins with seeing the needs of others with eyes of compassion and humility, and then helping to uplift those who are under the weight of social misery.
